About The Stitch Witch
Hi, I'm Kristen.
I got into needlepoint 30 years ago because my mother did it — I learned by watching her stitch, and from books, long before I ever thought it would become a business. My very first piece was a Noah's Ark Christmas ornament. Funny enough, my sister ended up with it, not me. It had French knots in it, and I remember struggling through them — but finishing that piece gave me a real sense of accomplishment, and that feeling is still what keeps me stitching three decades later.
What I love most about needlepoint is the calm the process gives me. There's something about the slow, repetitive rhythm of it — thread through canvas, stitch after stitch — that clears my head in a way nothing else does. I've been an artist my whole life, and needlepoint became the way I found to put that into something people could actually hold, use, and pass down.
I started teaching classes because I wanted to share what I know and help other people fall in love with it the way I did. I opened The Stitch Witch because being able to create something by hand, and then watch it bring someone else joy, is genuinely one of my favorite things in the world.
What We Make
Every canvas in our shop is hand-painted, designed with the same care I'd want in my own stitching bag. We make needlepoint canvases, chatelaines, and accessories for stitchers of every skill level — from confident beginners working their first continental stitch, to experienced needle pointers looking for their next piece.
We're based in the San Antonio, Texas area, and this is a genuinely family-run shop — from design to shipping, every order is handled with the same attention we'd want if we were the ones receiving it.
If You're New to Needlepoint
If you're just starting out: you're doing great, and finished is better than perfect. I wish someone had told me early on that the challenge is the point of needlepoint — you don't need to master basketweave or fancy decorative stitches before you begin. There's nothing wrong with just doing continental stitch until you feel confident. That's exactly what we walk through in our beginner classes and our Learn to Needlepoint guide — no experience required.
